INTERSPECIES WOUNDING?
On the larger scale, I donât see the arrogance explicit in the myth of human specialness as a consequence of some traumatic interspecies âwounding.â The drive to believe in and act out the myth of human specialness did not arise because we needed to protect ourselves by eradicating other species who were threatening to wipe us out. If that were the case, then the indigenous people who survive today and who are far more exposed to the vagaries of the âwildâ than us cozy citizens of urban civilization would be on the frontline of humans trying to decimate other species in the name of âself-defense.â Thatâs simply not the case.
